Mark your calendars for this great event, held the morning of our sale!

15th Annual KC Ranch Horse Classic Contest

PLEASE NOTE-ALL CONTEST HORSES MUST HAVE CURRENT COGGINS

A working ranch horse competition, the KC Ranch Horse Classic highlights the skills and abilities of everyday working ranch performance horses. This event will be held at 9 a.m. on Saturday, August 28th at Due West Arena just west of Kansas City, KS. Event location is Due West Arena (13400 Donahoo Road, Kansas City, KS 66109)

Entry fees must be paid in cash, and cash prizes will be distributed once the event is complete.  100% of entry fees will be paid out once cattle charge ($25/contestant, only for Open Division & Ladies Division), facility charge ($500) and judge fees ($300) are taken out. We are expecting about 30 horses, and to pay out approximately $1000 to the top 2 places in the Prospect Division and top 3 places in the Open Division. This may increase with added sponsors.

Horses competing in the contest are not required to sell in the sale. Horses consigned to the sale are not required to compete in the contest, although it is excellent exposure.  If a sale horse is in the contest, we will paint brand it with its lot number and announce it while it is working.

This year we will feature three divisions for the contest, the RANCH HORSE PROSPECT division LADIES dividion and the OPEN RANCH HORSE division.

Ranch Horse Prospect Division

A class that demonstrates the young working ranch horse through a series of ranch trail obstacles as well as good ranch horsemanship under saddle. Besides trail obstacles, horses will be asked to walk, trot, lope one direction, back up, and stand. Entry Fee-$75

(Please see detailed course description below. Course will be demonstrated prior to event start)

Ladies Division

Only ladies and girls are allowed to compete in this class. It will consist of the basic reining pattern from the "Open" division, but with no trail obstacles. After the pattern, contestants will call for a cow, take it the length of the arena, reverse its direction, take it back down the arena and settle it in the corner. (no roping) Entry Fee-$85

Open Ranch Horse Division

A class that demonstrates the brokeness and versatility of a finished ranch horse. Horses will be judged in 3 areas; Reining, Cow Work, Roping. Horses may compete in only one event, two events, or all three. Individual placings for each event will be placed separately, and prizes will be given for top horse in each event and money awarded to placings from the composite score of all 3 events combined. For the overall competition, the cow work will be worth the most points followed by the reining and roping. Entry Fee-$100

If you only want to particpate in the reining portion of the open class, you can do so for $60.

(Please see detailed course description below. Course will be demonstrated prior to event start)
